Just came across this and found it quite interesting.

I was wondering if you looked at wildfires, with happen every year and have frequency characteristics similar to hurricanes.

Perhaps if you accounted for wildfires much of the West would better fit your hypothesis. The only thing is it would hurt your thesis with regard to California I suspect. Although I think San Diego is supposed to be more conservative and more prone to fire than the rest of the state.</description>
