I've been observing personal computing behavior for a long time, and now I have some things to say. Here are my two cents about computing, music, software, and related topics.

Hey dude this is great news! Thanks for sharing this, I'm hoping that now I can just stick to the one browser and forget the rest.

I think I'm gonna cry tears of happiness now ...

Leland, I'd had a go on the WordPress site about Webkit spoofing last year and how well WK was working (still had one thread in my bookmarks) http://wordpress.org/support/topic/79828?replies=15
- seemed to upset the windows guys at the time (!) as they were having all sorts of problems - I'd forgotten!

However, recently tried WP 2.1 and OW works just fine with the new Visual/Code tabs - and yes WB does when spoofed.

You're right, I'm trying to urge the Shiira folks on, but the last two builds haven't really made a lot of headway. Search engines appeared briefly, only to vanish?! - it's real fast now though.

Hi Richard... by "global RSS feed", do you mean one that conglomerates all the separate feeds? If so, then yes, I really should do that. I should probably also do one for the three separate Software Addicts feeds (Recommended, Pending, and Rejected). I'll put that on my to-do list!

David... great! I'm glad someone else has noticed! Were you mentioning it on Shiira's forum to inspire the developers to incorporate a more current build of WebKit? I did try the latest Shiira build before writing the article, and it didn't include this new feature... as I'm sure you know.

As for WordPress, I didn't mention it (but probably should have), but to get the WYSIWYG editor working there, you have to "spoof" as another browser. I think I used IE6... For the benefit of anyone reading this who doesn't know how to browse using Safari while spoofing as another one, you need to first enable Safari's "Debug" menu.

To do this, you can either go to the Terminal and type:
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu -bool YES
or use a Safari plug-in like SafariStand, which has a checkbox for enabling the Debug menu in its settings window.

By the way, I'm using WordPress 1.5 something... it's possible that WordPress 2.x has fixed the "detect editor" code, but I don't know for sure.

Cheers,
Leland

I mentioned this a while ago on the Shiira forum :)

However, Webkit (for me) doesn't work the WYSIWYG editor in WP yet, hmmm - I'm on PowerPC - would this make a difference? Also, pre-loaded rollovers don't work either in Webkit or Omniweb.

That's what I get for blabbing before reading the rest of the post…

My sincerest gratitude for pointing this out, as a blogger, this makes my life so much easier. Thanks you, thank you, thank you!

(BTW, could you add a global RSS feed, so I can more easily subscribe to your great and powerful writings?)

Holy crap, you're right. I've been longing for the day I can finally throw away Firefox for blog editing. Now to wait until OmniWeb gets it…
