Nate,
You apparently don't understand what FUD means, and therefore can't recognize it when you hear/read it. FUD stands for "fear, uncertainty and doubt." It is a technique mastered and utilized by companies like Microsoft that want to smear potential competitors by planting fear and uncertainty in the minds of people who might be customers of those competitors. Obviously, my rant about the idiocy of the Yahoo writer has nothing whatsoever to do with FUD. Furthermore, nothing I said is untrue, an important characteristic of FUD.

The quote you cite is irrelevant to the argument I was making, and furthermore is not a statement any actual user would ever bother to read. Furthermore, it's arguable whether burning a CD of iTunes music constitutes "circumventing security technology." If I'm circumventing security technology when I manage to enter a locked building by entering an open door in the rear, then I suppose it is.

In any case, I was speaking of capabilities. Apple's FairPlay does nothing to prevent you from burning a CD of music from iTunes, and FairPlay isn't even involved in music you burn from CDs you buy from WalMart or wherever. That was the issue I was taking up, and that would be clear to everyone except someone who's still hoping iTunes and Apple will fall on their face rather than stand up to the monopoly player in town. Such people usually browse with IE and are early adopters of new products from Microsoft, regardless of their value or utility.

except you fail to mention that burning and ripping an album of purchased music violates a clause in the itunes terms and services.

"You agree that you will not attempt to, or encourage or assist any other person to, circumvent or modify any security technology or software that is part of the Service or used to administer the Usage Rules. "

you sir, spread as much FUD as the rest of them.
