TIBCO today announced for its General Interface AJAX RIA toolkit:
+ Firefox 1.5 support complete with SVG charting
+ Available through open source BSD License
+ New public developer community site

The product now provides over 100 ready made AJAX components and a set of visual tools for simplifying and speeding the creation of productivity applications for deployment to business users desktops where IE and FX are present 99% of the time.

FWIW--Anyone interested in participating in porting the open source code base to Safari or other browsers to capture that last 1% should post in the GI developer forums @ http://www.tibco.com/devnet/gi on that topic.

Hi! Loved this review!

I have a strong preference for the Opera browser, and was disappointed with the claim of cross browser and it meaning only FF and IE Win.

I appreciate the work that went into this. Thank you!

Just wanted to mention that the font in the expanded section (when viewing detail such as when expanding the Google Web Toolkit) in Opera 9 Windows is light grey on white and can't really be read.

Ben,
There's that term again--"Bias". Even educated people seem to throw that word around whenever someone expresses an opinion they're uncomfortable with. To be "biased" against something means you have a predisposition to dislike a thing, or you have a prejudice against a thing, usually based on misinformation or otherwise unfairly derived. For example, if I were on Apple's payroll, that fact alone would be sufficient to suspect me of "bias" toward Apple. If I had been personally harmed by Microsoft, that would be sufficient to suspect I was "biased" against Microsoft.

Nothing like that is in fact the case. My opinion of Microsoft is quite informed, and I've been a user of Windows since Windows version 2.0 (over 20 years). I've likewise been a Macintosh user since 1996, and I know the Mac operating system very well. I've also read extensively on the history of Apple and of Microsoft, and I follow the actions of both companies very closely. I do have a very strong negative opinion of Microsoft, but I believe it's informed and well deserved. My view is that Microsoft is so deeply ingrained in our business culture that anti-Microsoft attitudes are simply not tolerated. As I explained in an earlier article on the Mac versus Windows, I am repelled by Windows about as strongly as I am attracted to the Mac operating system. Apple is by no means perfect--like Microsoft, they're also in the business of making money. But I think it's very clear that whatever profits Apple derives from its operations is obtained fairly and through honest, innovative, positive activities in promoting the use of computers in our daily life.

I think I see a full article here somewhere...

In any case, I have no idea what you are referring to by raising Pfizer and GSK in the context of open source. I did a search through all of my articles and found no reference to either company. Perhaps you are mixing my article up with another that you read recently...

An interesting read if a little biased I can’t argue with the anti MS stuff but MS are there for one purpose, to make money, and have proved to be exceptionally good at it. It is not fair to measure them by any other standards. The bit that finally caused me to give up on the article was the comparison of the likes of GSK and Pfizer to the open source movement. How are they similar? I am sure that millions of people in parts of Africa, Asia or without health insurance would not agree with you.

[...] I just had to post this because I was trying for ten days to find this article again. You know what I mean, right? You know you found a webpage a week or two ago, you didn’t bookmark it, you’re not even sure if you browsed it with your newsreader, Firefox or something else. You don’t know how you found it and why. Somehow two weeks later you need this webpage again and you have no idea how to get it back. It is not in your browsers history anymore, its not in your delicous account and your search words for google are as general as »web, web 2.0, ajax, javascript, frameworks, browser, compatibility«. Through different combinations google threw finally the right URL on my screen - I had to search for »browser ajax framework compatibility«. Wasn’t too hard in the end but different combinations gave different results. I wasn’t even sure that I found it in the web. Therefore it deserves a trackback - just because I was so exited to find the link again. Maybe I should add it to delicious as well - just in case … [...]

Jaen and everyone else who's had trouble loading the lists today... I believe I've fixed the problem. Not sure how it crept in, but there do seem to be "ghosts in the machine" sometimes. :-) Opera 9 and Firefox and Safari (which didn't work either) and IE (yes, I love you guys, too) should be good to go.

Ironically, this page does not seem to work in Opera 9 (the DHTML + DHTML/Ajax framework accordions, presumably AJAX-loaded)?

Some of your readers have criticised your site for errors but I'm successfully reading this in Lynx as KDE compiles in the background, which must be an advert for unobstrusive Javascript if ever there was one. Congrats on the initial research and keeping up with the fast pace of development. Now how do I set a bookmark...

Martin, you're absolutely correct... Another reader wrote me outside this blog site to make a similar point yesterday. (Although he did it more kindly than you!) Now that Atlas has actual online demos and documentation, as well as downloads, I'll be doing a new evaluation. For now, I've removed the score for Atlas. As I have stated elsewhere, the original Atlas score of E reflected what I could see in early March 2006, as well as past experience with websites that have been built using Microsoft developer tools--which pretty consistently lock out non-IE browsers unless used responsibly.

I cannot beliee you can MS bash all the way through your article and then slate Atlas as a E grade when you have nt even used the tool.
Basically this has invalidated everything else you have said.
if you are going to grade something u should at least get it out of the box and use it.
